The Chinese One Child Policy
As I travelled around China I met many Christian families who were facing tremendous difficulties because of the one-child policy. The government was trying to force many Christian mothers to abort their second child...Families found with more than one child were fined huge amounts of money and had certain government privileges removed, such as health care and education benefits (Yun 229).
Recently, China loosened its grip on control of the people by allowing families to have two children instead of one. Unfortunately, one must apply if a second child is wanted. All of the steps and time required, however, have been a hindrance for many to request permission. Also, not all of the regions allow families to have two children. These policies have been established in order to control the large population growth. Sadly, this has caused many gender-selective abortions. The number of ratio of boys to girls born is 117:100 in present times (Larson). Hopefully, the Chinese will realize how both the lives of males and females are equally as important. Perhaps they will recognize that any human life, whether an embryo or an elderly person, should be protected and cared for with a full heart. Humans are created reflecting their Creator. To abort a human embryo is murder. This is not acceptable to God's will for us humans and the world. Every single life is precious.
